Skin Types!

Hey friends, welcome back! Today I’m gonna talk about different skin types and how to figure out what type you have. For years I have struggled with my skin care. I was never sure what type of moisturizer or what type of toner to choose. Once I started seeing an aesthetician and she told me what type of skin I have my beauty life got 100% easier.

Dry skin, combination skin, sensitive skin….all the buzz words you hear and see walking down the skin care aisle. If you are like me you were looking at all the products thinking well I have dry skin? No I think I have oily skin? No, no I must have combination skin. It was all so confusing. Here’s a breakdown of the different skin types and how to recognize what types you have….

Normal Skin: Your day to day skin is comfortable feeling. It’s not too dry and not too oily. It is smooth and an even texture. You don’t notice your pores as a problem and they stay the same size. Your cheeks are the driest part of your face but you don’t feel like you need to constantly moisturize. You might get a little shiny on your T-Zone but nothing you feel like you need to take care of throughout the day.

Dry Skin: After washing your face your skin feels tight. Your skin is constantly looking flaky. When you run your hands over your face your skin feels rough and textured. When applying products your skin stings or feels sensitive. Your pores are not a problem, you cannot even see them. Fine lines are your enemies.

Oily Skin: No matter if is is February or July your skin is constantly shiny. Your T-Zone is always shiny even after you wash your face. Your pores are large and visible even with makeup. You have frequent breakouts but you have very few wrinkles.

Combination Skin: Your skin is a little bit of Oily and a little bit of Dry. Typically your skin is oily through your T-Zone and dry on your cheeks. You can find large visible pores on your forehead, nose and chin.

Sensitive Skin: Your skin can be dry, oily, normal or combination. Your skin is easily irritated and prone to redness. Cosmetics, moisturizers and cleansers can easily aggravate your skin. Your skin is very sensitive and constantly feels itchy or looks blotchy.

So over the next few blog posts I really want to focus on skin types and care for them. On the next post I’ll focus on how to analyze your skin and find out what type of skin you have. Until next time!

Makeup Expiration

Happy Monday friends! Welcome back! Today I want to chat about something we all forget about…makeup expiration. I have personally used products WAY past their expiration date without even realizing it but here are some helpful hints to not let that happen!

Image result for makeup expiration

Look for this symbol on all your beauty products!!

First off here is how long you can use a product for after you open it…

Liquid & Cream Foundations: 2 years

Concealer: 2 years

Powder: 2 years

Mascara: 6 months

Lipstick: 12- 18 months

Lip & eye Pencils: 12- 18 months

Eye Shadow: 2 years

Powder Blush: 2 years

Cream Blush: 2 years

Moisturizer: 2 years

Eye cream: 6 months

Sunscreen: 2 years

Face cream: 2 years

Tip 1: When you open the product write the expiration date in sharpie on the product.

Tip 2: Start an excel spreadsheet with all your products and write in the date you open them and they expire.

Tip 3: Write it in your ical/google calendar. Lets say you open a product on Jan 1 and it expires on July 1. Create a calendar event that will remind you the day it expires.

Tip 4: Beauty Keeper App. Yes, there is an actual app for this guys! You enter the product into the app and it will remind you/tell you when it expires. There legit is an app for everything.

Tip 5: New year- new makeup. Once or twice a year set yourself up with a makeup date. Go through your entire makeup collection and either toss, clean or keep everything. Therefore anything expired you can get rid of, anything new you can reorganize or anything used you can clean and refresh.

Thanks for reading friends! Let me know what you do when it comes to makeup expiration!

5 Makeup Brushes Everyone Needs

Hi friends! Welcome back! My blog is designed for everyone from the person who wears makeup once a week to the average makeup wearer to the makeup obsessed. I want to blog about something for everyone. Today I want to focus on the person that wears makeup once a week and the average makeup wearer. So lets talk about 5 makeup brushes that everyone needs in their kit!

  1. Classic Round Powder Brush

This brush is a brush that can be used for all sorts of powders. You can apply foundation powder, bronzer and even translucent powders. Morphe is one of my favorite brands for brushes. They are very affordable and are great quality. You can find the brush above here….MORPHE- E2: Round Powder Brush

2.  Contour Brush

Love, love, love this brush! The Mac 166 is technically a large angled contour brush but I use it for all sorts of things. This brush is very versatile meaning you can use it for powder contouring, powder, and blush. I love the angle of this brush, which makes it easier to contour. Mac Cosmetics makes my favorite brushes. They are so soft and gentle and so durable and are long lasting. You can purchase this brush here… Mac: 168 Large Angle Contour Brush

3. Shader Brush

This brush is a must have for eyeshadow. You can use this brush to apply base eyeshadow to the lid, highlight the browbone and even pack shimmer shadows to the lid. My favorite way to use this brush is to spray the brush with Mac Fix+ and apply a shimmer shadow to the eye. You can purchase this brush here… Mac: 242 Shader Brush

4. Blending Brush

This is the most “must have” on the list. Everyone needs a blender brush for flawless blended eyeshadow. This brush is tapered and great for the crease and can blend out any shade of shadow. If I had to pick my favorite eye brush of all time, hands down this would be it. Again, morphe is an amazing brand and this brush is so affordable at $6!!! Buy the brush here…Morphe: M433 Pro Firm Blending Fluff

5. Detail Brush

This brush is just so damn cute. This is a pencil brush which is used for detailing. I use this brush for under the eye and really dark shadows near the last line. I use this to apply the shadow as well as blend them out. Sigma is another great brand. I’d say price-wise Sigma is between Morphe and Mac. Still amazing quality and affordable. My favorite part about Sigma is most of their brushes come in silver and rose gold! Buy this little guy here… Sigma: E30 Pencil Brush

That is all my friends! I hope this helped some of you with choosing brushes. I know going to Mac or Ulta or Seophora is very overwhelming…especially when it comes to buying brushes. What I love about these brushes is how they are very versatile and great quality. There’s nothing worse than applying makeup and the handle breaks or the bristle fall out or after washing it ones the brush is basically dead.

Comment below what your must have type of brushes are!

Pacifica- Wake Up Beautiful

Hi friends! Ugh this is the start of the worst time of year for my skin. Winters here in Boston reek havoc on your skin. My skin in the fall/winter takes a beating every year so I am always in search of something hydrating. I feel like my skin is always dull, dry, rough and bumpy.

So anyway, I was in the “fancy” section of Target AKA the all natural/organic beauty type aisle and I came across this…

This is an overnight super hydrating sleep mask. It is so easy to use! After washing your face you literally just slap it on and be done with it. All you have to do is wash your face in the morning before makeup and you’re ready to go.

Sometimes I feel like with a “super hydrating” mask your pores can get clogged and your skin can get greasy. Not this guy. It is 100% vegan and cruelty free and is formulated without parabens and petroleum. The scent is calming and subtle and natural smelling.

You can purchase this at Target and even Ulta for $15.

I am obsessed. It is the perfect dark fall nude that is sleek and had a pinky tone to it. There’s nothing I hate more than picking out a fall nude and having it look like the color of Spanx. UGH it’s the worst! But this is fantastic. Hope some of you guys like it!

I’m always looking for new nail colors! Please let me know what you like for the fall!

Make Up For Ever Ulta HD Invisible Cover Foundation

Hey friends! Today we’re gonna talk about one of my favorite foundations in the world!

What I love about this foundation is how it is so versatile and literally comes in a million shades. This foundation is medium coverage but feels so lightweight on your skin. This foundation has great coverage but it feels like your skin can breath.

This foundation was formulated specifically for TV and photographs. This is my go to foundation when I’m doing makeup for special events or weddings. This foundation looks amazing on all skin types and looks fantastic on camera.

I always apply this foundation with a beauty blender for a natural finish. When pouncing the beauty blender on the skin the foundation almost feels a little tacky. Don’t get me wrong it’s not sticky it feels like it is sticking to your skin for a long wear.

Personally I prefer a medium-full coverage foundation…more on the full side. Ulta HD is a great build-able foundation. I usually start with a very very light layer and build up from there.

You can purchase this foundation HERE!

Let me know your thoughts about this foundation!

Clarisonic: Mia 1

Welcome back friends! Today I’m gonna talk about one of my favorite skin care tools that I cannot live without.

I have been using the clarisonic for about 4 years ago and I’m obsessed. The Clarisonic Mia 1 is the first generation cleansing brush. I use it twice a day for daily cleansing, exfoliation and just for an overall deep clean. It keeps my skin soft and overall just brings life back to my skin. Using Clarisonic I have less breakouts and clogged pores.

Clarisonic recommends replacing the brush head every 3 months. They offer 5 different brush heads: Sensitive, Radiance, Deep Pore, Acne, Luxe. My favorite is the Deep Pore. If your skin is sensitive I wouldn’t recommend the deep pore it definitely gives you a true deep clean with exfoliation.

My favorite part about the clarisonic is how it is water proof. I love how convenient it is that I can use it in the shower. Another great thing about the Mia is the battery life. I can usually go a few months before I need to charge it again.

You can purchase the Mia 1 HERE!

Let me know how you feel about the clarisonic!
